Controversial Kaleshwar Baba of Shirdi Sai ashram in Penukonda suddenly died of kidney failure at Colombia hospitals in Bangalore on Thursday afternoon.
A godfather of revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy, 38-year old Kaleshwar Baba had always been in the news for wrong reasons: encroachments of lands and even the historic Penukonda fort of Vijayanagara Empire, collection of huge donations and threatening of journalists. There were allegations against him that he had become rich overnight by unearthing a treasure trove hidden under Penukonda fort and subsequently, he had built magnificent palaces and other buildings. He had the blessings of local police officials and politicians.
Interestingly, Kaleshwar Baba had reportedly made investment in a Telugu news channel, which has been highlighting his death and the mourning in the Penukonda area ever since he was declared dead at 3.30 pm. He had also filed a criminal case against Surya newspaper managing director Nukarapu Suryaprakash Rao for demanding Rs 2 crore for not carrying a negative story against the Baba and the ashram.
