UNNAO,UP,INDIA (Bullion Street): Excavation has started in right earnest at Unnao in Uttar Pradesh to trace the 1000 kg of gold believed to have been buried near a temple and a palace that belonged to erstwhile Raja Ram Baksh of Unnao.
The sage, Swami Shobhan Sarkar (70) who is always in a trance and refuses to meet people, has said that he had a dream in which the Maharaja said that 1000 kg of gold lies burried in four places in Uttar Pradesh state in North India.
The save believes that the excavation of gold can solve India's gold import problems and the resultant increase in Currrent Account Deficit (CAD).
The sage first wrote to the Prime Minister, the President of India and Archaelogical Survey of India but received no response. He approached Mr Charandas Mahant, a Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing who pursued the case with Archaeological Survey of India and Geological Survey of India and thus began a new hunt for the yellow metal in a country that otherwise produce a few 100 kg of gold every year and imports about 800-1000 tons to meet its requirements.
Although it is too early to say whether the excavation work which began two days could churn out gold as dreamt by Swami Shobhan Sarkar, initial results have only yielded broken bangles, shards and hopscotch toys, Hindustan Times quoting officiasl siad.
The excavation is being undertaken near the 180 year old Shiva temple and and the adjoining palace which belonged to the 19th centry King Rao Ram Baksh Singh.Rao Ram Baksh Singh, the king of the area, was hanged to death by the British rulers during the revolt of 1857 and his palace was destroyed.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) refused to interfere in the issue stating that it cannot pass an order on the basis of an assumption. A PIL filed in the court by a lawyer M L Sharma sought dirction for ensuring proper arrangements for safety and protection at the site so that any hidden treasure shoud not get into wrong hands.
